The Australian Government has introduced a new US$3 billion Defence Industry Growth Facility to support the growth and capability of Australia’s defence industry.
The facility is designed to provide more flexible access to finance for Australian defence businesses, including SMEs, and support further investment across the defence industrial base. It will provide loans, bonds, guarantees and equity to support new export opportunities, facility expansion and upgrades, and the development of capabilities aligned with Defence priorities.
Expanding on the former Defence Export Facility, the new initiative will also support projects that strengthen Australia’s sovereign defence capability and self-reliance.
For Hunter-based businesses, the initiative presents another potential pathway to invest in capability, scale operations and pursue opportunities across domestic and international defence supply chains.
The Defence Industry Growth Facility will be administered by Export Finance Australia through the National Interest Account.
