Generation STEM Links - Education Roundtable

Generation STEM Links is a CSIRO-run program which provides high-quality paid internships to help tertiary students gain relevant workplace skills and transition into STEM jobs after graduation. The program also aims to strengthen connections between industry and tertiary education institutions.

On Tuesday 1st November Generation STEM is hosting the STEM Industry and Education Roundtable event in the Hunter Region. The roundtable event will bring together tertiary education providers, local industry, and government to discuss: cross-collaboration opportunities, transition to employment pathways and future skills needs.

Upcoming developments and infrastructure investments in the Hunter, Newcastle and Williamtown areas will offer opportunities for business growth and local residents to gain STEM employment in their hometowns. To realise this, there is a need for a ‘work ready’ and trained workforce. This includes supporting students through industry-specific training and highlighting the STEM career opportunities available to them locally.

Freight, advanced manufacturing, defence, aerospace, and agriculture are all growing industries in the region. We know there are current skill shortages in these industries and anticipate these will only grow in the future if students are unaware of local opportunities. Generation STEM Links launched in 2022 to support NSW Industry find and recruit high-potential STEM students to help build and support a sustainable pipeline of skilled workers.

Generation STEM Links is part of Generation STEM, which aims to build a stronger and more diverse NSW STEM workforce through close collaboration with industry and education sectors.
